BYU Student Housing Policy states that all single undergraduate students must live (1) in BYU on-campus housing, (2) in BYU off-campus contracted housing, or (3) with qualifying family members for their first two semesters as a BYU Student. This applies to all single BYU undergraduate students, including transfer and international students, who are matriculated, meaning they have been admitted to a degree-seeking program.

On-Campus Housing

BYU recommends that all freshmen live on campus during their first two semesters, including those who are 19 or older. Click here to apply for on-campus housing and to learn more about on-campus options offered to first-year students.

Off-Campus Petitions

First-year students may submit a petition to live with qualifying family members before they have completed two full semesters at BYU. Click here to submit a petition to live off campus.

Off-Campus Housing

Students who have completed more than two semesters at BYU can live off campus. Follow this link to learn more about available off-campus housing that is contracted with BYU.

Parking

If you have a car and want to park on campus, you must register your vehicle. There are some free parking lots available to students, or you can pay $60/semester for Y parking lots (typically located closer to campus). Click this link to visit the parking website, where you can register your car, view the parking map, and more.

BYU campus is built to be walkable and self-contained, with many resources, restaurants, stores, and more on campus. However, in case of travel outside of campus, there are many options for students who do not have cars.

Student Shuttle

The Ryde is a BYU-contracted bus that picks up students from BYU housing locations and drops them off at the heart of BYU campus during Fall and Winter semester. The Ryde runs twice an hour from various locations, and is free for all students with their university ID.

UTA Bus, TRAX, and FrontRunner

Your BYU ID card doubles as a UTA pass, which gives you year-round free access to the UTA bus system, TRAX, and the FrontRunner. This is especially convenient if you have classes in Salt Lake, an internship, work, or want to visit friends and family in Utah. Click this link to see the schedule and routes for all of the UTA services.

Bikes

Any bike, scooter, or rideable that is ridden or parked on campus should be registered with a bike license. BYU accepts any Utah County city bike license. Click here to register your bike license.
