However, if you are a RESIDENT for tax purposes, you can get help from the Marriott School's VITA lab. More information can be found on vita.byu.edu.

HOWEVER,
If you are considered a RESIDENT for tax purposes AND you did not receive Form 1042-S, you may schedule an appointment with the Marriott School VITA lab at vita.byu.edu.
If you are a resident for tax purposes AND you received Form 1042-S, you may try the following websites that may accept Form 1042-S (note that these websites do require payment):

2. Determine the Type of Forms to File

Second, if you are a NON-RESIDENT for tax purposes, determine what type of forms you must file depending on your income.

If during 2026, you DID NOT

  • work in the United States,
  • enroll and pay the $4,000 international student deposit before Winter 2024,
  • receive any type of income including a scholarship, OR
  • have Select Health/Marketplace Insurance in 2026,
  • BUT you resided in the United States during 2026 for even one day,

you are required to mail Form 8843 to the Department of Treasury Internal Revenue Service, Austin, TX 73301-0215, USA, by June 15, 2027.
